Ekiti election: NYCN happy over massive turnout of youths

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commended Ekiti youths for turning out en masse to exercise their franchise in recently conducted Ekiti Governorship election.
Comrade Obinna Nwaka, NYCNā€™s Director, Political and Democratic Matters, in a communique on Tuesday in Abuja, also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for successfully conducting the election.
Recall that Dr Kayode Fayemi, a former Minister of Mines and Steel Development and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti.
Prof. Idowu Olayinka, the Chief Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, said Fayemi polled 197,459 votes to emerge winner.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, came second with 178,121 votes.
Nwaka lauded security agencies for their civil approach, commitment to peaceful election and ensuring a secured environment for electorates to cast their votes despite the tension before the election.
ā€œ We commend the electorates in Ekiti State especially the youths for assembling at the polling units in all the 16 LGAs in Ekiti State before the arrival of the INEC ADHOC Staff and security.
ā€œWe commend one of our national officials from Ekiti State, Comrade Adedotun Omoleye, for the exchange of hands of fellowship to our team of observers.
ā€œWe also appreciate the Ekiti State Chapter NYCN under the leadership of Mr Eyitayo Fabunmi for their active political participation during the election.
ā€œWe finally commend the INEC for their commitment to a true democratic environment by not just conducting peaceful election but also ensuring free, fair, credible and a conclusive election that meets the international best practices,ā€™ā€™ he said.
The director advised INEC to introduce guidelines that would ensure strict compliance by political parties to discontinue disruption of stakeholders meetings.
Nwaka said that INEC should encourage observers by providing them with quality materials and comprehensive election packages such as pens, election observation guidelines and jotter.
According to him, INEC should ensure provision of adequate utility vehicles for the security personal especially the Nigerian police force for prompt action and deployment of its officers to assigned polling units.
Nwaka said that Ekiti State Governorship election was peaceful, credible, free, fair and conclusive without incidents of death and bloodshed.
