Chukwueze To Work With New Coach At Villarreal After Calleja’s Sacking
Samuel Chukwueze’s coach at Villarreal, Javi Calleja, has been sacked and a new coach set to be announced before the end of today (Monday)
The Yellow Submarines decided to terminate the contract of Calleja, a Madrid native, despite recently renewing his contract for one more year last season after achieving qualification for the Europa League.
Calleja was fired due to Villarreal’s disastrous start to the La Liga season having picked up just 14 points from 15 games.
Under Calleja, Chukwueze gained promotion to the first team with the 19-year-old flourishing with the Yellow Submarines in the LaLiga Santander.
The Nigeria international has made 20 games so far this season scoring five goals and providing two assists.
The former U17, U20 winger has made five appearances in the La Liga for Villarreal scoring twice. He has played two games in the Copa Del Rey, scoring one goal and four appearances in the UEFA Europa League. He also made nine appearances in the Segunda Division B Group III La Liga scoring twice for the B team of Villarreal.
Chukwueze is poised to make his fifth appearance in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday when Villarreal host Spartak Moscow. A win for them will see them through to the next round.
