Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provides Marcus Rashford injury update ahead of Newcastle clash
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is confident that Marcus Rashford will be fit to face Newcastle despite limping off the pitch during Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over Bournemouth.
Rashford produced a stunning first-half performance against Eddie Howe’s side, setting up both of Paul Pogba’s goals before getting on the scoresheet himself just before the break.
However, Rashford was replaced by Romelu Lukaku in the 70th minute and hobbled straight down the tunnel at Old Trafford before the Belgian netted United’s fourth.
The young England international is excelling under interim boss Solskjaer and there were fears he would miss Wednesday’s trip to Newcastle.
Solskjaer, though, has revealed that Rashford was merely suffering from tiredness and expects the forward to be available.
‘I think he’ll be OK. He’s been working so hard and he’s been a bit tired. I think he’ll be alright,’ the Norwegian said.
Solskjaer heaped praise on Rashford in the aftermath of his stunning display versus the Cherries.
‘I think Marcus has been different class since I came,’ he said.
‘His work rate is unbelievable. He chases, closes down, runs in behind and his skill for Paul’s goal was great.
‘The first thing he holds the ball up and has no real right to go past the first one and then the second one.
‘He’s got all the chances in the world and the potential to be a top, top, top striker.’
