SERIOUS DRAMA: DAYS AFTER ATIKU INVITED MICROSOFT, PRESIDENT BUHARI ‘SPOKE’ WITH BILL GATES ON PHONE
Joseph Omoniyi
Another dramatic narrative is currently being played out in the Nigerian political sphere and it is not supposed to be funny though, as it seems our so called leaders will never cease to play politics with every issue, regardless of how meaningful or meaningless it is.
A few days ago, PDP’s presidential candidate in the last election, Atiku Abubakar said, he had invited Microsoft and others as witnesses to his alleged ‘election victory’, now, in what looks like a dramatic stunt, presidential aides, Bashir Ahmaad and Shehu Garba said, Founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates has spoken with President Muhammadu Buhari on phone, congratulating him on his victory in the last election and for supporting the eradication of polio and HIV in Africa and Nigeria in particular.
This is not to debate the accuracy of the ‘Bill-Gates-Called-President-Buhari’ report at all, but to attempt to charge the government to desist from playing politics and ‘clap back-games’ with every issue that has an impact or otherwise on Nigerians. One may ask, what is the impact, tangible value of this ‘move’? Why now?
The best way to silence opposition is nothing but action (tangible performance). Not with a game of ‘who fine pass’ or ‘who’s got a longer leg’. No! It will not lead anywhere but backwards.
