Arsenal could be favourites to sign Ajax star Hakim Ziyech after he revealed that a move to the Emirates would be the ‘ultimate dream’.

It puts the north Londoners in pole position should they enter a bidding war with Manchester United who are also reportedly interested in signing the Moroccan forward.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic year with the Dutch side having won the Eredivisie title and KNVB Cup, while also guiding Erik ten Hag’s side to a Champions League semi-final.

However, Ziyech will be allowed to leave the club in the summer and potential buyers will only have to stump up his reported release clause of £25million.

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars confirmed that Ziyech would be allowed to leave after previously admitting: ‘He leaves when a top club comes. He is in focus because of his achievements in the Champions League.

‘Many big clubs are buzzing around him. We promised Hakim to agree to a good transfer.’

The 26-year-old scored 21 goals while setting up his team-mates 24 times in 49 games

This has put top European clubs on high alert with Tottenham and Bayern Munich both showing interest in the player but it seems that Ziyech has his mind made up when it comes to his next move.

In a 2017 interview, the forward revealed that he’d love to move to the Emirates or the Nou Camp should the opportunity ever arise.

When asked by then team-mate Justin Kluivert who would he like to play for, Ziyech told Ajax TV: ‘Well, I have two clubs. They are Arsenal and Barcelona. That is my ultimate dream.’

And speaking on whether he has a footballing idol, he said: ‘Yes, I actually do have one. [Mesut] Ozil.’

When Kluivert joked if Ziyech is better than Arsenal’s No 10, he replied: ‘No, I’m not even close to Ozil’s level.’

Ziyech was named as Ajax’s Player of the Year for a second successive year after he scored 21 goals while setting up his team-mates 24 times in 49 games.
