In what seems to be a season of revelations about ‘rabeasts’ and their victims in Nigeria, another survivor has recounted her experience in the hands of her father, a popular writer and professor, who allegedly raped his five daughters for over 10 years of their lives.

The victim who preferred anonymity revealed that her ordeal started at the age of 5 when her biological father would sneak into her room, remove the light bulb, tape her mouth and threaten to flog the living daylight out of her with ‘koboko’ if she shouted.

According to her, there were times that he would scare her with knife in order to instill fear in her.

“From age 5 to 15, I suffered. It’s crazy. I am yet to heal completely…great torture…my father. So when I see people who can voice out boldly like this, I support them and pray for them.

He tormented me for 10 years. For 10 years I suffered. I was at his mercy. My mum never knew…she was blinded with love”.

She said when she clocked 21, she had the boldness to tell her mother, who fainted out of shock.

‘Then I had got my freedom…I wanted to sue him, mum pleaded…I don’t call or see him anymore. Mum is still with him. I think (did it for ) rituals. We (he has) are five girls, I was the last. He raped all my sisters…They became pregnant. They aborted thrice each. I was the only one who never became pregnant (for him)…(so,) he called me ‘ogbanje’. Honestly, I know what rape is…some stories are better left untold. His sight irritates me, God have mercy…My husband knows it all and helped me through my healing process. I am always afraid of sex, (but) he helped me get out of my fear.’

‘I have three girls…when I see my husband playing with them I always say, “do you want to rape them…?” It took me time to get it out of my head’

‘He is so evil (yet), he is so popular, well respected and he keeps raping people up and down.’

She further explained that her sisters who are now widows, lost at least three children each and that that she is the only one “with a perfect home”.

She continued, ‘Before I got married, he was always condemning my spouse, ‘he is not good for you…I am your husband…let’s have sex again’, (he would say). When we were going to the altar on my wedding day, he kept saying, “don’t walk too fast…you can change your mind…you can call off this wedding”, I told him “no, I am marrying today sir”‘.

‘Mum is still with him (but) we are planning to take her away but she said no, (that) she would not leave until dad dies. She is tired too.’

‘Some people may look cool outside but, what they have gone through is more than an encyclopediaā€™.

(In our case,) we had to do DNA (test) because, we thought he was not our fatherā€¦because we thought a father could not do that to his daughter, but when the result came out, (our doubs were cleared), he is actually our fatherā€™

ā€˜I hate him stillā€¦his sight annoys meā€¦I wish I could get him locked upā€™, she concluded.

Hotjist gathered that the suspect is one of Nigeriaā€™s foremost writers, poet, a literary critic, lecturer and a professor who is well respected even beyond the shores of Africa for his works and contributions to the literary world.
