Following reports circulating the media about an army captain alleged to have ordered the shooting of the 3 policemen killed by soldiers in Taraba, freeing kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Balla Wadume in the process, the one question begging for answers on the lips of many Nigerians is, who is this Army captain and why is he being ‘shielded’?

The Army Captain , who is said to be currently undergoing interrogation at the Defence Headquarters Abuja, was reported to have been arrested alongside five other Army personnel, who were alleged to have taken part in the horrific killing of the three policemen and their two civilian agents in an operation to arrest a notorious kidnapper, Alhaji Hamisu Balla, alias Wudume, in Ibi area of Taraba State.

However, when Hotjist contacted the Police PRO, Frank Mba, he said he preferred not to name the alleged Army captain as investigations are still ongoing.

He further stated that he cannot provide any further details on the active investigations for now as he was unable to confirm whether any arrest has been made nor persons indicted regarding the incident.

“I am taking a position that is very clear and unequivocal, that I don’t intend to speak on the ongoing investigations, for now, it is an active investigation and I have no plans to speak on it until when it is right for me to speak on it”, Frank Mba posited.

Meanwhile, hotjist.com gathered that two policemen working at Ibi Police Division have been arrested alongside five soldiers manning the army checkpoint. The two policemen were arrested for allegedly leaking information to suspected kidnap kingpin Hamisu Wadume of plans to arrest him.

The yet to be named Army captain was said to have been a beneficiary of some ‘benevolent gestures’ of the notorious kidnapper.

Nigerians are however clamouring for the identity of the suspect be revealed even while investigation is still going on.
