IS KANYE WEST A GOD OR SERVANT OF GOD?

…“everybody says “Who does he think he is?” I just told you who I thought I was- a god. I just told you. That’s who I think I am.”

Kanye Omari West, an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, entrepreneur, and fashion designer, who once claimed to be a god in one of his interviews with BBC Radio1 is now on a new campaign of being a servant of God.

He says that God saved his life and that he is truly repentant. West made mention of something interesting in his song Selah

“To whom the son has set free, is free indeed

He saved a wretch like me”

Kanye released an album, Jesus Is King on 25th of October, which features a lot of Christian themes with West describing it as “an expression of the gospel.” The album had been heavily critiqued by some as lacking inspiration and quality content.

He started a churchish gathering, which he called the Sunday Service. The service holds every Sunday and debuted on January 6, 2019. The location of the services changes every week. According to Variety, the Service has been held on Kanye’s property in Calabasas, in Burbank, and Los Angeles. Most of the services have been invite-only, and attendees are usually asked to sign non-disclosure agreements. However, recent gatherings in Chicago, Wyoming, and Dayton, Ohio have been open to the public.

There’s a dress code for both the choir and attendees. GQ writes that the show’s producer gives the choir a Yeezy-designed (Kanye-designed) outfit either a few days before the week’s Service or just before.

Kanye described the inspiration behind the Service on Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman

“It’s just an idea we had to open up our hearts to make music that we felt was as pure and as positive as possible and just do it for an hour every Sunday, and have something where people can just come together and feel good with their families.”

However, this sudden move hit a lot of people really hard: friends, fans and foes. It all came as a sudden cloudless downpour. Some think of it as a publicity stunt, some expressed their disbelieve in the sudden awakening of Kanye West while others are nonchalant as they are not yet certain what his reasons might be. There had been incidents of people leaving the church auditorium because Kanye climbed the pulpit. It still seems like a hard pill to swallow for some people.

Some anonymous person linked his story to the story of Paul,

“after his conversion and his name changed from Saul to Paul, a lot of believers found it really infuriating to accept him as a member of the fold because of his past. Nonetheless, it turned out that he was not lying.”

He further mentioned:

“It is the business of the people what they do with their lives and if they have decided to give it to Christ, then why not”. “There is no sin that God can not forgive, also there is no sinner that He cannot save, even Kanye West”. “Whether Kanye West has given his life to God or not is not supposed to be our concern, we should focus on our own paths and let him (Kanye) run his race; let the authenticity of his acclaimed salvation and repentance be between him and God.”
