No Agreement Yet on New Minimum Wage – Lagos State Govt

The Lagos State government has denied reports in a section of the press that it had agreed to pay civil servants a new minimum wage of N35,000.

In a widely circulated message on social media on Friday, Comrade Rasaq Adio Falade, State Chairman, JNC had stated that the Lagos State government had settled for N35,000 as the new minimum wage. He went further to say that payment would begin at the end of November 2019.

In a swift reaction; Lagos State government has denied the report as false and that negotiations were still ongoing with labour unions in the state over the implementation of the new minimum wage.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishments and Training, Mr. Biodun Bamgboye said “We are in the process of minimum wage negotiations with labour and we are looking at the best modalities to implement it.”

Bamgboye noted that any agreement reached with the labour unions will be made public through an official statement from government recognized communication channels.

He called on civil servants in the state to be rest assured that the outcome of the minimum wage negotiation will be in their best interest.

“The administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is committed to enhancing the welfare of staff. Being a people-oriented government, we are committed to ensuring better service delivery through a competent and motivated workforce”, Bamigboye noted
