LOCAL NEWS ABIA HEALTH COMMISSIONER REPORTS LASSA FEVER OUTBREAK IN THE STATE By Admin Posted on January 9, 2020 2 min read 0 0 149 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Pinterest Jonathan Ogbonna According to a press release from the office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health Umuahia, Abia state, on the 7th of January, 2020; Chief Egbulefu Eze, the commissioner for health informed the general public of the outbreak of Lassa Fever in Olokoro community, Umuahia South Local Government Area. “I want to report about an outbreak of Lassa fever at Olokoro,” the permanent secretary said, adding that it was the fourth time Abia would experience the outbreak since 1999. He advised Abians to get rid of rodents in their environment, avoid drinking raw garri and improve their personal hygiene which includes washing of hands regularly.“I want to report about an outbreak of Lassa fever at Olokoro,” the permanent secretary said, adding that it was the fourth time Abia would experience the outbreak since 1999. He further mentioned that the outbreak is not out of control, “there is no cause for alarm” he said. However, the people are expected to be on the lookout and to report any unusual health condition to the appropriate authorities. He expressed his gratitude to the present governor of the state, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu for his support and intervention to ensure that the outbreak was contained.
