LATEST GIST POLITICAL GIST SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS 12 YEARS JAIL TERM FOR TARABA EX-GOV, JOLLY NYAME By Admin Posted on 2 weeks ago 2 min read 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr The Apex Court of Nigeria has upheld the judgment delivered by the Court of Appeal which sentenced the former governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame to 12 years imprisonment for breach of trust and misappropriation of public funds. The five man panel led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili however set aside the hundreds of millions fines imposed by the Appeal Court. It would be recalled that Jolly Nyame had earlier appealed the November 16th, 2018 appeal court judgment which affirmed his conviction by the High Court in Abuja. Nyame had approached the Supreme Court to evaluate the evidence with which he was convicted, review his sentences and verify whether the charges were valid. The Supreme Court, however, affirmed the decisions of the Appellate Court except for the fines. The Court of Appeal in Abuja had on November 16th, 2019 ordered the ex-governor of Taraba State, to pay a fine of N495 million for alleged misappropriation of public funds during his administration from 1999-2007. The Appeal Court also reduced the 14-year jail term imposed by the High Court in Abuja to a 12-year jail term.
