As Cristiano Ronaldo-led Juventus team is set to face league arch-rival, Internazionale today behind in an empty stadium, players from both sides have been assured of no threat of the deadly coronavirus infection. This coming about a week after the Juventus under-23 team played against a Serie-A side, Pianese who had three of their players tested positive to Covid-19. A training session between the Old Ladies and their junior team had been called off and various preventive measures put in place. According to the Juventus management, the situation is being taken very seriously and the medical staff have told all the players to keep washing their hands and using hand gel: “No one has tested positive but bearing in mind the Inter game has been postponed because of health concerns nothing is being taken for granted. “Some of the players involved in the Under-23 match did train midweek with Ronaldo and the first-team, but that will now not happen again for a few weeks.” Juventus’ first-team match against Inter Milan was scheduled to take place against Inter Milan last week Sunday but was postponed over coronavirus fears. The most keenly anticipated game of the Serie A season will be played behind closed doors few hours from now. Juventus were originally supposed to host Internazionale on 1 March, before Italy’s coronavirus outbreak tipped the country’s top division into a timetabling meltdown. On 27 February, the league’s governing body officially confirmed that the game was going ahead as scheduled but behind closed doors – in line with a government ban on mass public gatherings in several northern regions of Italy. Two days later, the decision was reversed. Juventus v Inter was postponed, as were five other Serie A games: all at less than 36 hours’ notice.
