Dj Obi ends Guinness World record quest after Deejaying for 229 hours straight
The disc jockey set a new record with a 240-hour, ten-day set beginning at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22nd and ending at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 2nd, 2016.
The Syndik8 Records’ official disc jockey, Obi Ajuonuma (DJ Obi) has put Nigeria on the world map by breaking the Guinness World Record for the Longest Marathon Club DJing.
DJ Obi on Friday morning at Sao Café, Lekki, Lagos, broke 200-hour record set by Polish DJ, Norbert Selmaj, also known as Norberto Loco at The Underground Temple Bar in Dublin, Ireland on November 27, 2014.
DJ Obi’s, the son of late Levi Ajuonuma, a former Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), began his ten-day set on June 22nd which will run till 11:30 pm on July 2nd, 2016, when he would have completed a total of 240 hours target he set for himself.
While his achievement may not attract financial reward, he would, however, be recognised by Guinness Books of World Record.
While on set, the DJ was allowed to take a 20-minute break every four hours or one hour break after 12 hours. He was also allowed daily medical checks, massages and consumption of doses of vitamins to keep him going despite his lack of sleep.
This is not the first time a Nigerian would set an entertainment-related world record. In 2006, Kafayat Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, set a world record in longest dance with a time of 52 hours and 3 minutes.
In 2011, Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege of an American based rap group, Chiddy Bang, broke the world record for longest freestyle rap after rapping for 9 hours, 16 minutes, and 22 seconds.
