Nobody Can Win Election without Women’s Support
The Democratic People’s Congress (DPC) has said that no candidate can be elected into any political office without the support of women, saying that women constitute at least 50 per cent of eligible voters in Nigeria.
This observation was made yesterday in Abuja, by the national chairman of the DPC, Rev. Olusegun Peters, while delivering a speech at “Women In Politics Forum Round-Table On Advancing The Place Of Women In Politics.”
He said with the massive voting power of women, it has become necessary for women to also contest various elective positions in the country from councilor to president. He noted that for long, women have operated behind the scene in Nigerian politics coming out with beautiful attires, dance, and clap, giving colour to election campaigns.
He observed that women have achieved a lot in education, business, leadership and politics. “Our great women have held top national and international positions and distinguished themselves in all the roles assigned to them.”
He said, “Nigerian women have contested various positions including the presidency. The good news is that the political horizon is wide enough to accommodate more women participation in the electoral process.
