Prelate to Buhari: relieve our pains
The Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr Chukwu Emeka Uche, yesterday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to rescue Nigerians from hunger and hardship.
He reminded the President that nobody voted for the ‘change’ Nigerians are witnessing when they voted for him in 2015.
Uche who spoke in Akure, Ondo State capital, while delivering a sermon at the Methodist Cathedral Church, Gbogi, urged Buhari to consider the plight of Nigerians languishing in abject poverty occasioned by the recession.
The prelate was in the state to dedicate the new Methodist Cathedral Church, laying the foundation stone of the Methodist Event Centre and dedicate the new Bishop House, on Federal Secretariat road, Akure.
He lamented that nothing is working in Nigeria, saying “in most states of the federation, workers are not paid, pensioners are dying of hunger, naira has fallen to N415 per dollar, parents have no money to pay children school fees, roads have turned into death traps, electricity is not accessible, etc.
Mr President should not be too rigid, his administration should show a human face, he should change ministers and political advisers discovered to be a stumbling block in bringing succour to the masses.’’
The religious leader said “we love Buhari…but he should hearken to the lamentation of Nigerians by doing whatever possible to bring reprieve to the masses.
“We are blessed in this country, but the management of these resources is the problem, we need to do everything possible to see our land experiencing buoyancy again”.
The cleric urged the church to bring the nation out of the woods through ceaseless prayers, stressing that Christians must rush to God to relieve the people of the tribulation.
He lamented that people are no longer interested in farming, saying “we are not supposed to buy any farm products, such as cassava, yam tubers, pepper and others, with our fertile land, we are only praying to God to touch the hearts of the leadership and followership to do the right things in the country.”
Dr Uche hailed the Methodist Bishop of Owo Diocese, Rev Solomon Adegbite, for changing the face of the diocese through laudable projects, urging him to continue in that spirit for the development of the church and its congregation.
