Schurrle: Mourinho ruined my dream at Chelsea
Andre Schurrle feels that Jose Mourinho showed him how hard it could be to be a footballer when he ruined the midfielders Chelsea dream.
The German international played just 44 league games for the club after moving there from Bayer Leverkusen in summer 2013.
Schurrle spent just 18 months at the club when he was sold to Wolfsburg for a deal in the region of £22m – and £4m profit on the player who is now at Borussia Dortmund.
The Daily Mail report that he told Bild: “Chelsea was a dream for me. But after I was out for a few weeks through an infection, the coach unfortunately did not count on me much more often.
“Mourinho showed me how hard life can be as a footballer. If you had one bad game, you would be out of the team.
“My experience at Chelsea was great, playing with so many superstars – it was just like I had imagined it.
“Playing for Chelsea was an absolute dream for me, but following my infection, the manager no longer counted on me.”
There was surprise at Stamford Bridge when the now Manchester United manager allowed the World Cup winner to leave in the January transfer window.
Although there are similar situations currently occurring at Old Trafford with Henrikh Mkhitaryan left out of the squad for the league game against Arsenal, because Mourinho deemed it too much pressure for the Arminian midfielder.
Schurrle has only played five of Dortmund’s 11 league games so far this season but did come on as a substitute in their 8-4 Champions League win over Legia Warsaw on Tuesday.
