Stam will get good reception on return to Old Trafford – Cole
Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam will receive a “good reception” when he returns to Old Trafford as Reading manager in the FA Cup, former teammate Andy Cole has told the BBC.
Reading, third in the Championship, appointed Stam as their new manager in the summer and face United in a third-round tie next month.
The Dutchman was part of United’s treble-winning team in 1999 but left in 2001 after writing a controversial autobiography.
But Cole, a teammate from 1998 to 2001, said: “I look forward to that [Stam’s return]. He’s done very well at Reading. I’m sure he’ll get a good reception.
“I’m not surprised by how well he has done. I’m really pleased for him.”
Reading have already faced Premier League opposition in a cup competition this season, being knocked out of the EFL Cup by Arsenal in October.
