Nasarawa sacks poly rector, senior officers
The Nasarawa State Government has terminated the appointment of the Rector, Registrar and Bursar of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia.
The rector, Dr. Silas Gray, registrar, Mr. Labani Joseph, and bursar, Abdullahi Akya, were directed to proceed on compulsory leave with immediate effect.
The Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Mr. Mohammed Abdullahi, said this in a statement on Thursday in Lafia.
According to the statement, the state took the decision pursuant to its desire to reposition the state-owned tertiary institution.
The statement said Governor Tanko Al-Makura took the decision “in compliance with the relevant laws establishing all the state-owned tertiary institutions and as a visitor to all the tertiary institutions in the state.”
It directed the officers to hand over to their respective deputies.
The statement added that the government had also set up fact-finding committees to probe the activities of the polytechnic, the College of Education Akwanga and the College of Agriculture Lafia from 2014 to October 2017.
It said the affected officials had been informed, adding that the committees would soon be inaugurated.
