Intestinal candida, the reason why you need to detox regularly

Read Time:3 Minute, 37 Second

Several bacteria live in our digestive tract making up the normal “micro-flora”.  They contribute greatly to our health by producing vitamins, natural antibiotics and help break down toxins in our body. However, these bacteria can overgrow and become pathogenic.
A good example is Candida Albican which can be found in the oral cavity, female genital cavity, intestine, and some other organs of the body. If allowed to grow unchecked, it can lead to candida yeast infection and leaky gut syndrome in the intestinal tract.
Candida Albican appears in two forms; the Bud-like form and the Mycelia form. The bud-like form is found in small amounts in the mouth, digestive tract, genitals and on the skin of healthy individuals. They do not cause any health problem.
If it is in a favourable condition, it has the ability to change from the bud form to a mycelia form with filaments able to penetrate the intestinal mucosa that is as wide as a football field, multiply like cancer cells and feed on the putrefied crustifications on the inflamed intestinal walls and pouches.
At this phase, this penetration can puncture the gut walls, causing leaky gut syndrome as intestinal content begins to sip into the blood and body tissue causing a disease condition. The fungi growth at this point is well blown and really harmful to the system.
Toxic substances like acetaldehyde, which produces ethanol, and free radicals that damage the DNA are also released. It decreases iron absorption leading to malabsorption, and weakens the immune system. In extreme conditions, it can metamorphose to cancer cells. Mark Bielski (1997) opines that, leukemia (blood cancer) is intimately associated with yeast, candida albican.
Symptoms of intestinal candida include: white coated tongue, painful muscles and joint, chronic fatigue, weight gain, chronic ear, nose and throat infections, chronic constipation, chronic sinusitis, gastritis, abdominal bloating and discomfort, flatulence, high cholesterol, hormonal imbalance, autoimmune disease, skin problem, chronic diarrhoea, depression, mental dullness.
Some of the factors that influence intestinal candidiasis are:
Diet
The type of food we consume impact the growth of the fungi. Food, such as sweet fruits, refined or whole grains, bread, cheese, dried fruits, juices and other sugar diets can increase the growth of these fungi. In fact, intestinal candidaisis feeds on refined carbohydrate and sugar. Food congestion due to over eating may also lead to intestinal candida.
Antibiotics
One of the main causes of the normal yeast changing its form to a pathogenic one is antibiotic use. Antibiotics enhances the proliferation and survival of the fungal form of candida. The misuse of antibiotics can lead to fungi overgrowth. Studies done by Meinolf Kartars showed that a child with leukaemia went into remission at a triple dose of anti-fungi. Antibiotics not only destroy the bad pathogens, but also destroy the good ones that help in fighting diseases and reduces ones immune system.
Environmental toxin
Heavy metals such as copper, mercury, cadmium as well as Lead increase the growth of intestinal candida, cause adrenal imbalance, infertility and other disorders. When toxic substances accumulate in the blood stream, they damage the body. Some of its sources are fish eating, unfiltered water and polluted air.
Also, mineral deficiencies such as zinc and selenium interferes with the immune function. Excessive alcohol consumption and lack of vitamin B complex can lead to a weak toxic congested liver, resulting in intestinal candida.
Some other factors include steroid therapy, diet low in zinc and high in copper, sedentary life style and stress, hormone therapy for rheumatoid arthritis, contraceptives  and allergy treatment.
Treatment and diagnosis of intestinal candida may be difficult at times because serum candida immunoglobulin (antibody) level do not represent the extent of the infection. A lot of things have been done in time past to diagnose and treat intestinal candida all to no avail. You can test for candida by getting a clean glass of water when you wake up first thing in the morning. If on getting your saliva on the top of the water, a sticky cloudy substance flows down the water, you may be having candida.
Detoxification can help to improve overall wellness, health and vitality. Mayr Medicine at Mart-life Detox Clinic Lagos, has put in place different treatments protocol of body detoxification that have been used to successfully diagnose and treat lot of cases of intestinal candida.
