Angel di Maria: ‘I was close to Barcelona move’
Angel di Maria has revealed that he was “close to joining Barcelona” during the summer transfer window.
The Paris Saint-Germain attacker was linked with a move to Camp Nou before the Catalan giants signed Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund.
The Argentine has claimed that he almost made the move to Barcelona, and would have had no problems representing the Spanish giants despite his past with Real Madrid.
“I was close to joining Barcelona… well, close and far away at the same time,” Di Maria told ESPN. “It’s difficult to move to such a club and it was not completed, but life sometimes has surprises, you never know.
“The chance of going there wasn’t affected by the fact that I had already worn the white of Real Madrid. I might have been whistled at Camp Nou before, but it would have been nothing significant.”
Di Maria, 29, has not yet scored in eight league appearances for PSG this season.
