300 players for national t’tennis open
Over 300 players from 25 states and teams are expected to compete in 18 events at the National Table Tennis Open Championships and the Commonwealth Games trials, which begin on Monday at the National Stadium in Lagos.
The competition will also feature para-table tennis players as the players aim for places in the Commonwealth Games team.
The four-day events begin on Tuesday with draws for the 18 events expected to hold on Monday.
Among the stars expected at the event are the 2017 Asoju Oba Cup champion, Jamiu Azeez, as well as women’s singles defending champion, Cecilia Otu-Akpan, who will be aiming to retain her title.
Technical Director and national team coach, Nosiru Bello, said, “The draws for the national open will hold on Monday as players arrive for the competition. We are expecting nothing less than 300 players for the event and the Commonwealth Games trials. The players for the para events will also learn their opponents on Monday.”
Meanwhile Otu-Akpan said she was not ready to lose the title.
