Babangida: NFF Must Learn From FIFA Sanction, Avoid Repeat

Former Super Eagles winger Tijani Babangida has called on the Nigeria Football Federation to learn from the recent FIFA sanction of deducting a World Cup qualifying point from Nigeria and fining the NFF 6,000 Swiss francs, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The final African qualifying Group B fixture for the Russia 2018 World Cup ended in a 1-1 draw, but FIFA on Tuesday awarded all three points to Algeria following Nigeria’s use of ineligible defender Abdullahi Shehu in the encounter.
“It was a big mistake, but in my usual way, I try to learn from every situation I find myself and that is exactly what I want the NFF to do because we are just lucky that the point deducted did not affect our World Cup ticket,” the ex-international told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“Aside from the fine which I believe the NFF will pay, I want them to also learn that they need to be serious in everything they do, if we had not won some games in the early stage of the World Cup qualifiers, it would have been difficult now.
“I am also happy that NFF has set up a committee to look into the matter while the NFF President has also apologized to Nigerians. I think we should just learn from that, simple.”
Babangida however called on the football house to ensure they prepare well for the World Cup in Russia.
“The only thing I can say is for the NFF to prepare well for the World Cup so that they will not disappoint Nigerians.”
Nigeria will face Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in the first round of the World Cup next year.
