Moses: I’ve Had A Great Year, Even With CAF Award Snub
Nigeria winger Victor Moses says he is not disappointed to be left out of the final three-man shortlist for the 2017 African Footballer of the Year award.
Moses had a memorable 2016/2017 season with Chelsea, winning the Premier League title for the first time and becoming a regular member of the team under Antonio Conte.
He also helped Nigeria become the first African country to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia in a group that had two of the continent’s powerhouses Cameroon and Algeria.
After initially making the 10-man shortlist for the award, he was shockingly left out of the final three-man list by the Confederation of African Football.
Gabon’s Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang, Egypt’s Mohammed Salah and Senegal forward Saido Mane are the three men who are in the running for this year’s award.
The former Wigan player stated he is content with his initial nomination despite outrage of football fans in Nigeria due to his snub.
“I must have done well. It felt good to be nominated. I’ve worked so hard. It’s a bit crazy and shows how far I’ve come,” Moses was quoted in the Daily Star on Sunday.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner recently returned to action for Chelsea after missing out for six weeks as a result of the injury he picked up in a league match against his former club Crystal Palace.
Despite the little setback, he claimed he has enjoyed his time at the club this year.
“It’s been a great year for me. I’ve really enjoyed it, but want to keep it going.”
