World to celebrate Things Fall Apart at 60
Lovers of African literature, especially fans of legendary writer, Prof. Chinua Achebe, are gearing up for the 60th anniversary of his classical novel, Things Fall Apart.
Ten years ago, many literary folk celebrated the book when it clocked 50, at a time the legend was still alive. But because the life of a good work of art is longer than that of his creator, the book is still generating fervour across the world.
With over 20 million copies said to have been sold, while the publication has been translated into over 50 languages, it remains Africaās best selling novel and an acclaimed piece anywhere.
A statement from the Christie and Chinua Achebe Foundation indicates that there will be events in Nigeria, South Africa, Europe, America and Australia, among other places. The one in Nigeria is being organised by the Association of Nigerian Authors in conjunction with writer and physician DrĀ Wale Okediran.
