‘Fresh PDP’ drops threat meets ex-national chair, drops parallel exco threat
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party known as the ‘Fresh PDP’ has dropped its threat to form a parallel National Working Committee of the party in Abuja on Monday (tomorrow )
One of the leaders of the group, Mr. Olukayode Akindele, stated this on behalf of the faction after its meeting with a former National Chairman of the party, Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo in Abuja on Saturday.
Akindele said it was time to cease fire.
Apart from Akindele, other members of the group at the meeting included Duru Ihuoma and Franklyne Edede.
The faction was formed to protest the result of the party’s national convention held on December 9, 2017, where Secondus was elected national chairman of the PDP.
The group had vowed that it would announce members of its NWC in Abuja on January 22.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Akindele who presented a list of what the group called the ‘authentic NWC’ members in an envelope to Nwodo, said they had decided to sheath their sword in the interest of Nigeria and the 2019 general elections.
In his reaction to the development, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said, “What was perceived as crisis is over.”
Meanwhile, the national leadership of the party has lifted the one month suspension it placed on Senator Buruji Kashamu.
Kashamu was suspended for one month from the party in December 2017.
The party also referred his case to the Governor Seriake Dickson-led Reconciliation Committee.
