HOUSE OF REPS URGE FG TO SEE TO IKORODU LIGHTER TERMINALS
House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to address the multi billion investment Ikorodu Lighter Terminals and other terminals across the country that perform below capacity.
This was emanated from a motion sponsored by Hon. Babajimi Benson, (Lagos State) on Wednesday plenary.
Babajimi in his lead debate said, given the huge economic challenges confronting the nation, expanding the capacity of the terminal to an export gateway and putting its facilities to maximum use, will open up the economy, create jobs, and earn foreign exchange for the country.
The motion was however supported by many present lawmakers stressing on the need for the realistic efforts to restructure the Terminals to ensure effective utilization, for the interest of businesses and the nation’s economy.
The House therefore mandated the committee on Ports, Harbours and Waterways, Customs and Legislative Compliance to visit Ikorodu Lighter Terminals for assessment, urging the committee to also liaise with stakeholders to bring the terminals to effective use and report back in six weeks for further legislative action.
