Read Time:1 Minute, 16 Second

It seems the race for the 2019 general election has started gathering steam across the country as different political group has started emerging. The latest of such group is the Forum of Ex-Speakers of States House of Assemblies.
The formers speakers gathered at the Asokoro mansion of minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi. Though journalists were not allowed to cover the details of the meeting, Plateau state governor Simon Lalung who was also a former speakers addressed his former colleagues. Lalung said the forum aims at reviving speakers who have not been active politically in their state. He said the idea is to use their wealth of experience to benefit the country.
More than 80 politicians attended the event. Lalung said the forum will be officially registered to give it a legal status. He charged his colleagues to preserve the fraternity among the speakers and work for the society.

Secretary to the forum and former speaker of Abia state Stanley Ohajuruka said the forum is not political but a pressure group with the aim of assisting government in building a peaceful and progressive nation. He said membership of the ex-speakers forum cut across political parties which gives the forum a wider perspective and credibility to address issues affecting the country.
Gatherings like this are known to spring up when major elections like 2019 is in focus, but the secretary of the forum said they have no agenda for 2019 and have not endorse anyone for any political office.
