Salisu Takes Blame for Eagles Loss in CHAN 2018 Final
Head Coach of the Home-based Eagles, Salisu Yusuf, has accepted the blame for the 4-0 huge loss Nigeria suffered in the final of the 2018 African Nations Championship against Morocco last Sunday.
Eagles that conceded just two goals prior to the final lost the form and character that propelled them to that stage of the competition.
However, Coach Salisu Yusuf in his pre-match conference after the loss took all the blame for the huge defeat at the hands of hosts.
“We lost because we had to manage due to many injuries, Morocco played well. Created chances and scored, it could have been better if we have all our players available. The game became more difficult after the red card. I’m taking responsibility for this defeat, but I think we have done well to reach the final, we wanted to win but Morocco got it”. Salisu said.
“We played well at the WAFU tournament, then there was a transition, and we had to change some players. It’s not easy to assemble the best 23 players in the league. I think we did well, playing six games – winning four, with one draw and loss,” he concluded.
This is the best ever finish by the Super Eagles at the CHAN tournament, missing the first two, won third place in first attempt under Coach Stephen Keshi, didn’t make it out of the group stages in second attempt under Coach Sunday Oliseh.
