The House of Representatives has demanded the immediate sack of the Inspector General of Police , Ibrahim Idris over gross incapabilities.
The House which passed a vote of no confidence on the IGP, ordered his replacement with a more competent and professional person.
This followed a motion moved by Hon. Nuhu Damburam in Wednesday at the plenary session.
The honorable members noted that the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies have turned blind eyes to illegal act of terror being perpetrated in the open
House of Representatives correspondent, Linda Ike, reports that the house therefore called for the immediate removal of police public relation officer, Jimoh Moshood on alleged derogatory statement by the PPRO against governor Ortom of Benue state.
In another development, the House of Representatives has called on the Nigeria Police Force to create more police stations and out-posts in the urban and rural areas for a more effective and community-based policing to ensure the safety and welfare of the citizens.
This followed a motion entitled Urgent Need to Conduct Demographic Survey of Police Officers and Create More Police Stations to Tackle the Current Security Challenges in the Country sponsored by Hon. Jimoh Olajide.
Hon. Olajide in his lead debate on the floor, expressed worries that as a result of shortage of police and other security personnel, many criminal offences are being committed on a daily basis, especially in the rural areas, without the law enforcement agents being present to arrest the situation.
It would be recalled that the Inspector General of Police had, on 16 May 2017, stated that policemen would be deployed to their communities of origin in order to bridge the gap between the police and the populace and also enhance community policing.
