FG Stresses Importance To Consider Interest of Nigerians On Standard Development For Electrical Products
The Federal Government has reiterated the importance to consider interest of Nigerians in the process of standards development for electrical and electronic products in markets.
Director General, Standards Organization of Nigeria, gave this assertion on Tuesday at the Nigerian Electrotechnical Summit held in Abuja.
The DG who was represented by Director Operations, SON, Mr. Felix Nyado, said modalities will be worked out to engage experts from the Nigerian electricity supply industries in the development and implementation of Electrotechnical standards to ensure quality and safety products, systems are practiced in the country
He added that the summit will highlight competency requirements that Nigeria should have in order to negotiate effectively the interest of the country.
Business correspondent Linda Ike reports that the Nigerian National electro- technical committee presented variable platform to influence development of international standards, to further ensure that the interest of Nigeria are considered in the process of standards development for electricity and electronics products in the markets.
The Acting Director, SON, Mrs. Chinyere Egwuonwu also reaffirmed that Nigeria will continue to strengthen and maximise the existing partnership with IEC, adding that participation is the only way Nigeria can achieve its goal.
She further expressed satisfaction with the reform in the Nigeria electricity sector that has encouraged manufacturing of electricity equipment locally.
However, Chairman, International Electrotechnical Committee, IEC, Taisu Wudi disclosed that IEC wants to improve its standards, protect consumers and, workers to ensure electricity is produced in an effective way that customers will benefit.
He stressed that standardization remains the way forward to help improve the lives of Nigerians.
It was further submitted at the summit tagged “making impact in global standardization” as its theme, that the Nigerian electro- technical is also aimed at creating awareness on the benefit of the implementation of standards to ensure standardization is practiced in Nigeria.
Stakeholders were therefore called upon build synergy in enforcing standard of goods both locally and internationally noting that lack of local production has hindered the enforcement of standards.
