Senators Kick Against Electoral Act Amendment To Reschedule Elections.

Some Lawmakers in the Red Chamber have kicked against the adoption of the conference report by the joint committee of Senate and House of Representatives on the amendment of section 25 of the electoral act.
Their rejection followed a standoff staged by 9 senators which resulted to a rowdy session at the plenary on Wednesday while adopting the amendment of the electoral act as recommended by the conference committee on INEC.
Briefing newsmen after their walkout from the plenary, the aggrieved senators cited section 76 of the constitution insisting that the there should be a reversal of the amendment for the sequence of the elections noting that the responsibility of scheduling elections rest solely on the electoral body.
National Assembly correspondent Folashade Abdulsalami reports that the Lawmakers further alleged that the amendment was targeted at president Muhammadu Buhari adding that due process was not followed in adopting the section amended.

The passage of the report was however followed by dissenting voices calling for points of order, a development which later generated to an uproar in the chamber.

President of the senate, Bukola Saraki further ruled against three other senators who raised points of order to protest against‎ the adopted amendment.

The amendment to the electoral act, if approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, will uphold change in the order of elections as adopted by the National Assembly.
