EbonyLife Films’ “Royal Hibiscus Hotel” thoroughly delights eager fans who granted it high approval ratings at the cinemas.
Producers of “Fifty,” “The Wedding Party” and “The Wedding Party 2,” EbonyLife Filmsreleased its fourth feature film, “The Royal Hibiscus Hotel” on February 9 – to packed screenings and high praise from audiences across the nation. Even in Lagos, with heavy travel restrictions due to the marathon, loved-up couples braved the unseasonal wet weather to view the highly-anticipated film.
Here are some of their glowing reviews:
“The movie was fantastic.”
“I enjoyed it. Not only was the movie a beautiful love story, I loved the way it showed Nigeria in a positive light.”
“Authentic. 10/10 quality. Brilliant, definitely a must-see!”
“I loved the movie. It’s really enjoyable – especially the scenes with the parents. It’s definitely worth seeing this Valentine’s.”
Mo Abudu, CEO of EbonyLife Films is ecstatic about audience response to the company’s fourth movie. “RHH was a different project for us. At a point, we were doubtful about its uniqueness being appreciated – but it appears that we were worried about nothing. The film was well received in Toronto at the film festival, by a largely Canadian audience, and it seems to be resonating with Nigerians in a similar way. Now that we are in the month of love, this is the perfect film to bring couples closer together,” she said.
The Premiere
Just a few days before the film opened in cinemas, the cast, celebrities, captains of industry and political leaders attended its enchanting premiere at the Civic Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. The venue was transformed into a Valentine wonderland, with a mesmerising array of fine cuisine from ten leading chefs and culinary specialists. Guests were in fine spirits with five different bars, a series of decadent lounges throughout the building and live music by the waterfront, with Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Johnny Drille, Falana and Kaliné.
The Royal Hibiscus Hotel tells the story of ‘Ope’, a passionate Nigerian chef, following her dream of opening an African restaurant in London. Frustrated by her lack of progress, she returns to Nigeria and discovers that going home can bring unexpected surprises. The cast includes Zainab Balogun, Kenneth Okolie, Deyemi Okanlawon, Kemi ‘Lala’ Akindoju and O.C. Ukeje, with veteran actors Rachel Oniga, Jide Kosoko, Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva. It was directed by Ishaya Bako.
