Westerhof Wants Nwakali, Onyekuru In Nigeria’s World Cup Squad
Clemens Westerhof wants the inclusion of young players like Kelechi
Nwakali amongst others in the Super Eagles squad that will represent
the West African nation at Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup finals.
The former Nigeria manager won the AFCON in 1994 as well as qualify
Nigeria for her first World Cup finals in USA the same year where the
Super Eagles reached the second round.
He said there is need for a balance of youth and experience in the
Super Eagles squad.
He also said the quarter final stage is the least he expects the Super
Eagles go at the global fiesta.
“Nigeria have good players in Europe so the Super Eagles should do
well at the World Cup”, Westerhof began.
“(John Obi) Mikel, (Victor) Moses, (Odion) Ighalo, good players.
“But, yes, young players like (Kelechi) Nwakali who plays here in
Holland, that boy in Hull City, (Ola) Aina, Onyekuru, plenty of them
can go (to the World Cup).”
“With big players with experience and young player with strength,
speed, the Super Eagles will do well in the World Cup”, Western of
posited.
The Dutchman also fancies the chances of the chances of the Eagles in
a group that has Argentina, Croatia and Iceland.
“Argentina is no problem. Prepare very well and get your tactics well, its okay.
“You have good players, good team but Nigeria must go to round of 8,
or 4 (quarter, or semi finals),” he concluded.
