Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho is looking forward to theĀ 2018 FIFA World Cup which will be hosted by Russia where he hopes toĀ proves himself once again at the highest level.
This is according to the left-footed strikerā€™s image right manager,Ā Kingsley Ogbodo, who spoke on All Nigeria Soccer.
The Nigerian international has failed to establish himself inĀ Leicester’s first following his big money move from Manchester City inĀ the summer.
“Kelechi is eagerly waiting for the world cup so he can prove himselfĀ once again,” Ogbodo said.
The Super Eagles are in Group D alongside South American giantsĀ Argentina and European sides Croatia, and Iceland.
Iheanacho is confident that Nigeria can go all the way and reach theĀ final of the global competition.
“Every time we chat about Russia 2018, you could see the eagerness inĀ him,ā€ he said about the Leicester City striker.
“He says he can’t wait for the Super Eagles to shock the world in Russia.
“Right now people think we are underdogs, but Kelechi’s target is toĀ play in the World Cup final.ā€
SUPER FALCONS WITHDRAWS FROM TURKISH TOURNAMENT
The Nigerian womenā€™s national team has pulled out of their trip toĀ participate in a tournament in Turkey this week.
The reigning African champions have withdrawn from a 12-nationĀ tournament due to visa issues and that has come as a blow to the side.
According to reports, the Super Falcons were scheduled to lock hornsĀ against France, Kosovo and Kazakhstan in Group B from February 26 to 7Ā March as preparation for this year’s Africa Women Cup of NationsĀ qualifiers.
However, the West Africans have since withdrawn from the competitionĀ for logistical reasons, as confirmed by the Nigerian FootballĀ Federation.
“It was impossible for the team to sort visas and make it to theĀ tournament in Turkey, so they had to pull out,” NFF spokesman AdemolaĀ Olajire told BBC Sport.
“They only just finished playing the Wafu Cup on Saturday and had aĀ short time-frame to sort out visas and other important logistics forĀ the trip to Turkey.
“Importantly, attention and preparations will shift towards the bigĀ friendly against France in April.”
The cancellation comes as a real setback for the country and newlyĀ appointed coach, Swede Thomas Dennerby, as it means less game time forĀ the side.
Meanwhile, the team will now travel to Europe to play France in aĀ friendly in April and will focus will on securing a spot at the 2018Ā Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.
