Iheanacho Eager to Prove Himself Once Again at The World Cup
Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho is looking forward to the 2018 FIFA World Cup which will be hosted by Russia where he hopes to proves himself once again at the highest level.
This is according to the left-footed striker’s image right manager, Kingsley Ogbodo, who spoke on All Nigeria Soccer.
The Nigerian international has failed to establish himself in Leicester’s first following his big money move from Manchester City in the summer.
“Kelechi is eagerly waiting for the world cup so he can prove himself once again,” Ogbodo said.
The Super Eagles are in Group D alongside South American giants Argentina and European sides Croatia, and Iceland.
Iheanacho is confident that Nigeria can go all the way and reach the final of the global competition.
“Every time we chat about Russia 2018, you could see the eagerness in him,” he said about the Leicester City striker.
“He says he can’t wait for the Super Eagles to shock the world in Russia.
“Right now people think we are underdogs, but Kelechi’s target is to play in the World Cup final.”
SUPER FALCONS WITHDRAWS FROM TURKISH TOURNAMENT
The Nigerian women’s national team has pulled out of their trip to participate in a tournament in Turkey this week.
The reigning African champions have withdrawn from a 12-nation tournament due to visa issues and that has come as a blow to the side.
According to reports, the Super Falcons were scheduled to lock horns against France, Kosovo and Kazakhstan in Group B from February 26 to 7 March as preparation for this year’s Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers.
However, the West Africans have since withdrawn from the competition for logistical reasons, as confirmed by the Nigerian Football Federation.
“It was impossible for the team to sort visas and make it to the tournament in Turkey, so they had to pull out,” NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire told BBC Sport.
“They only just finished playing the Wafu Cup on Saturday and had a short time-frame to sort out visas and other important logistics for the trip to Turkey.
“Importantly, attention and preparations will shift towards the big friendly against France in April.”
The cancellation comes as a real setback for the country and newly appointed coach, Swede Thomas Dennerby, as it means less game time for the side.
Meanwhile, the team will now travel to Europe to play France in a friendly in April and will focus will on securing a spot at the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.
