IDEYE OUT, JOEL OBI RETURNS AS ROHR NAMES STRONG SQUAD FOR POLAND, SERBIA FRIENDLIES

Read Time:1 Minute, 43 Second

The duo of Shanghai Shenhua striker, Obafemi Martins and Malaga’s
Brown Ideye were the major absentees when Super Eagles manager, Gernot
Rohr released a 28-man list of players to prosecute Nigeria’s double
header friendlies against Poland and Serbia this month.
The squad, made up of regulars who featured for the team during its
qualifying campaign for the World Cup is being boosted with the
inclusion of two new faces, Junior Ajayi of Egyptian giants, Al Alhy
and Stephen Eze who plays for Lokomotiv Plovdiv in Bulgaria.
Brown Ideye who is on loan at Malaga ostensibly to enhance his chances
of a recall to the team, was surprisingly left out of contention for a
place just as Shanghai Shenhua forward, Obafemi Martins, who despite
his experience, also did not get a look in by the Franco-German.
Also making a surprise debut in the team is Akwa United’s forward,
Gabriel Okechukwu while Joel Obi who has been long estranged from the
team finally made a comeback.
Rohr will be expected to submit a 35-man provisional list from which
23 players will make the cut to the mundial.
