Senators want Zuckerberg to testify before Congress
Democratic Sens. Ed Markey and Amy Klobuchar said Wednesday that they want Mark Zuckerberg to testify before Congress after revelations that the data company Cambridge Analytica harvested user information from Facebook.
The senators made the public request after Zuckerberg penned a lengthy post on the social media network describing the “breach of trust” that took place when Facebook offered to share information with the company.
“You need to come to Congress and testify to this under oath,” Massachusetts’ Sen. Ed Markey wrote on Twitter shortly after Zuckerberg’s message was posted.
He later added: “The more we learn, the more this demands answers.”
Meanwhile, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar said although “the steps Facebook has laid out to protect its users are a start… Zuckerberg still needs to come testify.”
“Facebook should show good faith & support the Honest Ads Act. To truly regain the public’s trust, Facebook must make significant changes so this doesn’t happen again,” she added.
Zuckerberg broke his silence Wednesday, five days after a story was published that said Cambridge Analytica accessed information from about 50 million Facebook users without their knowledge.
