Academic activities in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta was abruptly brought to a halt following a protest staged this morning.
Press Club MAPOLY gathered that, the protest was staged by out-going HND students who alleged that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) of the institution ordered that their results be withheld to prevent students from National Service, NYSC.
This development as observed, attracted the heavy presence of mobile policemen who were armed to the teeth to maintain order.
Our reporter while on the way to cover the protest was ordered back by policemen who barred MAPOLY shuttles and cabs from going beyond Iyana-Oloke.
Meanwhile, some students had already gathered at the school entrance for protest chanting and singing solidarity songs for hours.
Academic activities could not continue as very few percentage of the student populace could gain entrance into the school while presence of lecturers could not be confirmed.
Press Club MAPOLY learnt that some students who were intimidated by the heavy presence of policemen stayed back from school.
It was further learnt that, the students may resume the protest tomorrow, if the management and the ASUP fail to address their demand.
