Former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont is set to walk out of a German prison on bail after a court rejected an extradition request on the charge of rebellion.
Puigdemont paid the €75,000 bail on Friday and may immediately leave the prison in the German town of Neumuenster where he has been held since last month, the state prosecutor in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein said.
The former Catalan leader was arrested last month on a Spanish-issued arrest warrant as he entered Germany.
A court in Schleswig-Holstein on Thursday agreed to release Puigdemont on bail. It said extradition to Spain was still possible on a charge of misuse of public funds, but not on the charge of rebellion for his role in the campaign for Catalonia’s independence.
