LIVERPOOL LOANEE AWONIYI HITS GOAL NUMBER 9 IN BELGIUM
On loan Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi was on target once again forĀ his loan side Mouscron in their 2-1 win over Kortrijk in the BelgiumĀ play-offs.
Awoniyi connected planted a firm header into the net of Kortrijk off aĀ cross from Omar Govea in the 13th minute to draw his team level afterĀ they went behind through an own goal scored by Teddy Mezague in the
14th minute.
Five minutes from full time Dimitri Mohammed scored what ended as theĀ winner for Mouscron with a goal from the spot to boost their chancesĀ of qualifying for the Europa League, with two wins in two play-off
games.
20 year old Awoniyi is on a season long loan to the modest BelgiumĀ side from Liverpool, and after two unhappy loan spells, he is finallyĀ finding his feet in Belgium.
The goal was his 9th goal in all competitions, with 8 of his goalsĀ coming in the league, where he has scored three times in his last fourĀ game, and twice in as many games since his return from suspension.
His other goal came in the Belgium Cup, where he netted in a 3-1 winĀ over second division side Tubize on theĀ 20 of SeptemberĀ last year. HisĀ performance has already earned him a contract extension with
Liverpool.
However, he will still spend next season on loan but this time aroundĀ to a club campaigning in the Europa League, as Liverpool wants him toĀ gain some experience playing in continental games to ease his chances
of securing a work permit.
