Korede Bello graduates with distinction from Journalism
It’s not easy juggling fame, career and school. With over three million followers on Instagram, Mavin star, Korede Bello who recently graduated from journalism school has shown the world that once there’s will, there’s a way.
The singer who took a subtle break from music has been busy studying hard to become a certified journalist. Recently, his hard work paid off when he graduated with Higher National Diploma (HND) from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. To top up the result of his commitment, Korede who poured his heart into his books was also awarded best student in Editorial writing by the institute.
Bello who spoke about his dreams in a recent interview revealed that his plans on becoming an actor and all-round entertainer. He also didn’t keep his schooling from fans who he informed that he was studying to get a certificate in mass communication. He said: “I am a student of journalism but am slave to music. I nursed a dream to become a radio presenter in the past but music is my passion for now.”
Speaking on his dream to excel equally as an actor, he said: “I plan to star in some Nollywood films as I have been presented some scripts, which I am presently considering. But I have just dropped my debut album and I want people to see me as musician enough before I veer into movies.” He also revealed that his choice of school helped him a lot in achieving this great feat. He shared that distractions were minimal and he was able to face his studies.
He said: “I am grateful that I am still in NIJ, if I were in a University of Lagos undergraduate it would have been harder to manage fame because of the frenzy. NIJ allows me be myself, everyone knew me as a wannabe musician who became a star. My lecturers have been really supportive of my career. I am not a stubborn student so they don’t have any issues and they help me maintain my sanity.”
The 5th convocation which held on April 20, where the singer was awarded his certificate as well as honourary award for being the best student in editorial writing, witnessed 1,341 graduands of five academic session from 2013-2017.
501 students were awarded National Diploma (ND) certificate while, Higher National Diploma (HND) certificate was presented to 407 students, Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) certificate was presented to 352 students, Proficiency Certificate Journalism was presented to 64 students and Proficiency Certificate in Writing and Communication was presented to 17 students.
