NIGERIA’S KANU PAYS TRIBUTE TO WENGER AS ARSENAL MANAGER STEPS DOWN
Legendary Nigeria forward Nwankwo Kanu has reacted to Arsene Wenger’s decision to step down as Arsenal FC manager.
The French tactician announced his decision to bring to an end his 22 years in London, England on Friday.
His contract with the English Premier League giants was due to expire in June 2019, but he has since opt to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.
Kanu played under Wenger between 1999 and 2004 – winning two English Premier League titles and two FA Cup trophies.
“Big shoes for anyone to fill, playing for Arsenal under Arsene was one of the best period of my career.”
“Two premiership, two FA cups, the invincibles, playing with some of the best assembled players.”
“Influencing millions of fans in West Africa to support this great club are some of the memories that come to fore today but above all.”
“The privilege to have played for a gentleman like Wenger is most cherished,” Kanu said on Instagram.
Kanu, 41, scored 37 goals in 119 league appearances for Wenger-coached Arsenal.
