Everton Loanee Henry World Cup Hopes In Doubt After Knee Injury RelapseHenry Onyekuru’s World Cup hopes for the Nigerian national team are in doubt after he suffered a knee injury relapse in training ahead of Anderlecht’s Belgian First Division A playoff fixture against Club Brugge.

Various media outlets including Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that the Everton loanee is uncertain for the trip to Brugge and this is a big blow to manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck, who had planned to name him in the squad list as replacement for the suspended Kenny Saief.

As previously reported, Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr had hoped to post one of his scouts to monitor Henry in his comeback game for the first-team against Club Brugge, less than nine days before announcing a provisional roster for the World Cup.

But Rohr or the Super Eagles scout will embark on a futile mission if they decide to go ahead with the trip to Jan Breydelstadion based on this new development.

Henry Onyekuru has two games left, against Standard Liege (May 10) and Gent (May 13), to prove to the Nigerian Federation and the technical crew that he is fit enough to be on the plane to Russia.

The 20-year-old had 28 games under his belt in all competitions before his unfortunate injury in December 2017.
