HOLLYWOOD — One person was killed today when a car that had been involved in a hit-and-run struck a concrete barrier on the 101 Freeway in East Hollywood and burst into flames, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 2:05 a.m. on the northbound 101 just north of Santa Monica Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball said.
The driver was reported to be out of the burning vehicle and sitting on the dirt on the right shoulder while a person was trapped inside, the CHP said. Before that crash, the car had reportedly struck another vehicle and fled, Kimball said. The victim of that hit-and-run was following the suspect’s vehicle and watched the fatal crash occur, he said.
A SigAlert was issued at 2:35 a.m., shutting down all lanes of the northbound Hollywood Freeway at the crash scene and taking traffic off at Santa Monica Boulevard. The fast lane was reopened at 2:54 a.m., Kimball said.
The No. 2 lane was reopened at 5:18 a.m.
