Ramos Misses Penalty As Sevilla Edge Out Ronaldo-less Madrid
Sevilla held off a late fightback from Real Madrid, who were without Cristiano Ronaldo, to win 3-2 in a Spanish LaLiga clash on Wednesday at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium
The defeat was Real Madrid’s sixth of the season.
The win boosted Sevilla’s chances of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Europa League.
Goals from Wissam Ben Yedder and Miguel Layun gave Sevilla a two-goal lead before the break.
Sergio Ramos missed a penalty in the 58th minute to hand the UEFA Champions League finalists a way back into the game.
Ramos also scored an own goal to hand Sevilla a 3-0 lead with six minutes left to play.
Borja Maryola made it 3-1 in the 87th minute before Ramos redeemed himself by scoring a penalty in the 90th minute.
Despite the defeat, Real Madrid remain third in the table with 72 points from 36 games while Sevilla moved to seventh position with 54 points from the same number of matches.
