Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, are through to the final round of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after they edged out Guinea Bissau 1-0 in the second leg of their tie at the UJ Esuene Stadium on Sunday to advance 3-2 on aggregate.
Adamu AlHassan scored from the penalty spot in the 58th minute to hand the Flying Eagles the win after Wasiu Aladade was fouled in the penalty box.
The Nigerian side had a week ago played out a 2-2 draw in the first leg tin Guinea Bissau.
The Flying Eagles missed clear-cut chances in the first half with Enyimba’s Alalade guilty of two misses.
He squandered an opportunity to score when he had only the goalkeeper to beat from close range in the 22nd minute.
Al Hassan also missed from the edge of the box in the 38th minute of the encounter.
Two minutes from the hour mark, Alalade was fouled in the box and the resultant spot kick was converted by Al Hassan.
Valentine Ozornwarfo came close to making it 2-0 for Nigeria but his free-kick went inches wide.
The Flying Eagles will now face Mauritania in the final qualifying round of the qualifiers.
