House Urges FG On Diplomatic Engagement For Protection of Rights and Lives of Nigerians In South Africa.
House of Representatives has called on Federal Government to undertake diplomatic engagement with the Republic of South Africa on the need to protect the rights and lives of Nigerians in the country.
The house invites the minister of Foreign Affairs and senior special assistant to the president on Diaspora to brief the house on measures taken by presidency to guarantee the security of lives and property of Nigerians in South Africa.
These resolutions followed a motion sponsored by Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha on wednesday during plenary.
She noted that despite the reaction of the house to those previous killings, there has been no resolute move by the Federal Government to engage the Government of South African to stop the recurring killings of Nigerians, which have continued with mindless impunity.
House of Representative Correspondent Linda Ike reports that the house noted that more than one hundred and fifty Nigerians have been killed in South Africa, decrying that Nigerians remain an endangered people in South Africa with no succor by both governments.
Legislators who contributed to the motion stressed the need for South African Government to establish law that will stop incessant killing in the country.
They further suggested to take a petition to United Nations if no effort is been made to calm the situation.
The house however mandated the committee on Diaspora and foreign Affairs to ensure implementation of their resolution.
