Security Chiefs Demand Special Funding To Address Wanton Killings In The Country.
The Heads of Security agencies led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin has declared that a special funding would be urgently required as part of proactive measures to end killings in the country.
Olonisakin who along with the DG, Director of State Services ( DSS) Lawan Daura and representatives of the Service Chiefs , Inspector – General of Police, Comptroller General of Nigerian Immigration Service and Comptroller General of Nigerian Customs Service , had four hours closed door session with the Senate on wednesday made the submission during the session.
Disclosing what transpired at the marathon session which held between 12:30- 4:30 pm, President of the senate, Bukola Saraki said aside the issue of special funding raised at the executive session, he stressed on the need for strategic coordination amongst the various security agencies in terms of intelligence gathering and sharing.
He stated that strong resolutions were made at the closed door session that the endless killings in the land must stop adding that a resolution to ensure the National Assembly fast tracks consideration and passage of any bill seeking for special funding for the various security outfits was also adopted.
National Assembly Correspondent, Folashade Abdulsalami reports that the Lawmakers further resolved that the special funding request will have to come as a supplementary budget by the presidency.
In the meantime, Saraki stated that the money in question has nothing to do with the $1bn earlier earmarked for the armed forces operation in the North East .
