‘Rush hour sex prowler’ who admitted groping women and children including a girl of just EIGHT is a married wealthy businessman, a former nightclub owner AND a father and grandfather of two
Married grandfather-of-two and father-of-two Kevin Bond, 51, of Chislehurst, South East London, sexually assaulted girls as young as eight in daylight, and groped his victims before running off.
The former management consultant was given the ‘Rush Hour Prowler’ nickname because of his tendency to strike between 8am and 10am, or around 5pm on the streets of South East London.
He preyed on girls as they walked to school before he was finally captured in January after being identified from CCTV footage issued last November showing him running off following an attack.
Bond, whose first attack was on a girl aged 13 in Orpington in October 2016, has now admitted 14 separate sexual assaults between then and November 2017.
The former manager of Club 34 in Croydon, who pleaded guilty after police lined up victims for identity parades, is now in custody and will be sentenced next month.
He had lived in a three-bedroom house in Chislehurst with his wife Diane, 52, but it was sold in recent days after being put on the market in February for £825,000.
John Thompson, 69, who lives opposite Bond’s home, told MailOnline today: ‘He was arrested earlier this year, February I think. Police raided the house at 2am.
‘My son was woken up and at first he thought the shouting was from people drinking out in the street.
‘He went to tell them to keep the noise down but when he looked out the window he saw Kevin behind led out his house in handcuffs and into a waiting police car.
‘My son also said Kevin’s son, who is aged about 18 or maybe a bit older, was in cuffs too. He was later released however.
‘We’ve known for a while what Kevin has done. His wife Diane put the house on the market pretty soon after his arrest but I don’t know whether she’s managed to sell.’
Another neighbour added: ‘Diane lived in the house with her daughter Lucy and her two grandsons, who were aged about three and six.
‘I heard that they’d left on Saturday. They didn’t really let many people know, just sort of left quickly and quietly.
‘Nobody blames them, however, they’re victims as well and have been made to suffer the consequences of his actions.
‘Kevin had a lovely home, a lovely wife, a son and daughter plus to lovely grandsons and he’s thrown it all away.
‘Nobody will miss him, he’s scum, but we do feel for his family. A lot of the neighbours rallied around them just after he was arrested.
‘The two young boys would play with other kids in the road. We’re quite close-knit here, everyone knows everyone and we feel betrayed by Kevin.
Scotland Yard initially attributed 26 attacks to the ‘Rush Hour Prowler’ and said today that they believe more of Bond’s victims were yet to come forward.
His youngest victim, aged eight, was attacked in Lewisham between 8.20am and 8.50am on November 13 last year, reported the London Evening Standard.
He also sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl in Herne Hill on September 18 last year and five different 13-year-olds in Lewisham, Orpington, Blackheath and Lee.
Bond attacked a 12-year-old in Lee on September 28 last year during the morning rush hour, then a 13-year-old in Greenwich during the evening rush hour.
He then struck three times in just 25 minutes in Blackheath on October 5 last year – groping a 13-year-old girl then attacking two women in their twenties.
Prosecutors said there was a use of violence in the offences and a ‘degree of planning as they were committed at specific times of day’.
He was finally captured in January after being identified from CCTV footage showing him fleeing the scene of one of the attacks.
In a bid to snare him, police released CCTV showing him fleeing an attack on a 15-year-old girl in Brockley at around 8.30am on November 22 last year.
They also had him on camera running from a one of the October 5 attacks in Blackheath. Detectives even drew up an e-fit of the attacker.
In one incident, a 13-year-old girl was walking to school and the suspect was walking towards her, and as he walked passed her, he placed his hands between her legs.
In a separate incident, another 13-year-old victim was walking to school with her friend, when Bond reached his hand toward the top of her stomach and crotch area.
On the same day about ten minutes later at 9.30am on the same road a woman was waiting for a bus when he got close to her and grabbed her crotch area.
A further attack saw him pass a 14-year-old girl who was walking towards a pond. He came back and grabbed her from behind her in the crotch area.
Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Furphy, who led the investigation, said: ‘We are aware that there might be further victims who have not yet spoken to police.
‘If you are a victim, or know someone who has been a victim of a sexual assault, I can assure you your information will be treated with strict confidence and sensitivity and we can also access specialist support where needed.’
Radhia Karaa, district crown prosecutor at Crown Prosecution Service London South, said: ‘Kevin Bond carried out a series of sexual assaults on young women including children in South East London.
‘The prosecution case built against him included a range of evidence such as witness accounts and CCTV footage. I hope this conviction brings some closure to his victims.’
Bond pleaded guilty to 11 counts of sexual assault and three charges of sexual assault on a child under 13. He will be sentenced on July 9.
