The French President, Emmanuel Macron, will visit Nigeria for talks with President Muhammadu Buhari on security and terrorism, after which he will visit the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos on Tuesday, AFP reports.
The Afrika Shrine was originally founded by Afro beat music legend, Fela Kuti, but was rebuilt and renamed New Afrika Shrine by his son, Femi Kuti.
With the planned visit, Macron will be the first real “president” to visit a place synonymous with marijuana smoke, sexy backup dancers and protest music.
The evening will feature concerts, fashion shows by leading African designers and a meeting with stars from Nigeria’s booming Nollywood film industry.
Macron is currently visiting the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott to attend an African Union summit, from where he will go to Nigeria.
Also, the Lagos State Government on Sunday said Macron would be hosted by the state at the New Afrika Shrine.
A statement by the government said due to the visit, there would be traffic diversion and restricted movement from 12 noon to 12 midnight on Tuesday in the Alausa, Afrika Shrine and Agidingbi areas.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transportation, Dr Taiwo Salaam, urged motorists to make use of alternative routes provided.
He said. “While we regret the inconvenience that this may cause members of the public, we appeal that you kindly bear with us during this period and make use of the alternative routes provided.”
