Relegated Deportivo La Coruna decision to make Super Eagles goalkeeper
Francis Uzoho No 1 as they aim for a prompt return to La Liga was what
stopped his exit from the Spanish club, according to reports.
The 19-year-old shot stopper made a late entry into the senior
national but yet won the hearts of the technical crew who rewarded him
with first choice keeper ahead of Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi.
Reports claim Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr had already received
words from his employers to ensure Uzoho was moved to another club
where he could enjoy regular playing time.
“Rohr had already swung into action, looking for a new career
destination for Uzoho before Deportivo announced Uzoho’s elevation as
their number one goalkeeper,” a source close to Rohr told
Scorenigeria.
“Rohr had been told by his employers that Uzoho needs to be in a club
where he could be keeping regularly to enhance his progress and
sustain the gains of the World Cup.
“The coach was already about swinging into action before the LA Liga
club elevated him.
“So, the exit plan was shelved”.
Uzoho was part of the Golden Eaglets squad who won the 2013 FIFA U17
World Cup in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
